When What Got You Here Can’t Take You Further

High achievement often has deep roots. For many driven professionals, the patterns that once ensured survival – formed in childhood or inherited across generations – are the very ones that now quietly hold them back.

At Start Anew, we offer a range of counselling and therapy services to strengthen your sense of self and navigate a path in the world.

With us you will trace the origins of maladaptive coping, learn to respond more flexibly and constructively to life’s circumstances, develop healthy relationships, break outmoded behavioural patterns and challenge problematic core beliefs.

We help you to rediscover your self-compassion, balance, motivation, innate resources and define success on your own terms.

This is not about fixing what’s broken – it’s about understanding what shaped you, honouring its role, and choosing what still serves you today.

Together, we’ll explore how early experiences and inherited patterns influence your leadership, relationships, and inner life – empowering you to move forward with greater freedom, depth, and alignment.

From Survival to Self-Actualisation

At StartAnew, we understand that true leadership and wellbeing begin with self-awareness and healing.

Our professional coaching and therapy services, typically spanning 6 to 10 sessions, offer a supportive space to explore unhelpful patterns that may have formed in childhood or earlier relationships. These patterns once helped you survive but now limit your growth and fulfillment.

Whether it’s the lingering impact of unresolved emotional wounds, substance use struggles, or other life challenges, these deep-seated experiences often shape how we relate to ourselves and others.

In today’s complex world, we are confronted with a range of challenges. We can be bullied in the workplace, be exposed to inexplicable hatred or bias, we can be exposed to moral injury, gaslighting and discrimination from others.

We help you to build your resilience, develop healthier responses to these challenges.

With therapeutic support, you gain greater clarity on what really matters, understand yourself compassionately, communicate better with others, and get your needs met.

By letting go of what no longer serves you, you can create space for accepting your emotions and thoughts, connecting with your body and choosing what action to take.

Frequently Asked Questions

Therapy goes deeper than professional coaching by exploring the origin and course of deep-set patterns of responding- often rooted in childhood or past experiences – that influence how you lead, relate, and respond to stress.

While coaching is typically solution-focused and future-oriented, therapy uncovers the underlying drivers behind behaviours, helping create lasting internal change.

Yes. Many clients benefit from both coaching and therapeutic support, which integrates the practical, goal-setting elements of coaching with the deeper self-awareness and emotional work of therapy. Karen Freedman tailors a plan that aligns with both your current challenges and long-term growth. This typically involves a program of between 6 -10 sessions.

This work is ideal for high-performing professionals, entrepreneurs, and leaders who may be experiencing burnout, imposter syndrome, relationship difficulties, or emotional patterns that no longer serve them.

It’s especially effective for those ready to explore trauma-informed approaches for leaders, and who want support that honours both their ambition and their inner life.

Outcomes vary depending on your goals. Some clients experience practical shifts like better stress management for leaders, improved decision-making, or stronger boundaries.

Others may notice deeper transformation – greater emotional resilience, clarity around identity, or a release from old survival strategies that once felt necessary for success.

Absolutely. Karen Freedman offers a confidential, non-judgmental environment for exploring both personal history and present-day pressures.  Confidential personal information is critical aligning with legislative requirements.  Karen abides by the code of ethics of the International Coaching Federation (ICF) and the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).

Whether you’re navigating career transitions or unresolved past experiences, you’ll receive therapeutic support and coaching that’s grounded, compassionate, and evidence-based.
